Opened on 16 June 1950, the Maracanã has hosted matches at the 1950 and 2014 World Cups, including the 2014 final, as well as the 2016 Olympic Games. Flamengo and Fluminense both play their home games here on a regular basis.

The Maracanã tour lasts 50 minutes and takes you behind the scenes of the stadium, right down to the edge of the pitch. It runs every day from 9am to 4.30pm, with the last tour setting off at 4pm. The route may vary depending on the date you choose.

Did you know?

With 199,854 spectators, the Maracanã may well hold the attendance record for a football match forever. For the title-deciding game at the 1950 World Cup (Brazil's defeat to Uruguay), the Rio ground packed in almost 200,000 people, the equivalent of two Stade de France plus a Geoffroy-Guichard. We'll let you imagine the atmosphere.
