About

In 2013, after a century and 3,695 matches at the old San Mamés, Athletic Club opened its new stadium on almost exactly the same spot. Nicknamed "the Cathedral", it holds 53,331 spectators and is wrapped in a semi-transparent façade.

The guided tour lasts around 45 minutes. You can also explore the stadium at your own pace with an audio guide. The route takes in the pitchside, the dressing rooms, the tunnel, the bench, the mixed zone, the press room and several stands. The museum opens daily in July and August, from 10 am to 8 pm. For the rest of the year it opens Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 8 pm between March and October, then until 7 pm from November to February.

Did you know?

When the new stadium was officially opened on 16 September 2013, Athletic Bilbao edged out Luis Enrique's Celta Vigo right at the death. That night, and Basque supporters surely still remember it, Ernesto Valverde's side won 3-2, with Frenchman Aymeric Laporte lining up for the hosts. Brazilian striker Charles, the first goalscorer in the ground's history, will also remember that evening for a long time.
